Merry Christmas Jennifer!  Just wanted to send you a quick update about George (Solstice x Neville 2022). He is the sweetest, most well behaved, big goofy boy. He and my daughter are best friends and he is so good with her. He’s a hefty boy at over 65lb and about the size of my parents’ golden retriever! Cole worked VERY hard to train him right from the start and he is such an obedient boy (most of the time!). In public he’s calm and friendly with strangers and very non-reactive – basically he’s perfect. He also turns heads whenever he goes and it’s hard to make it through a walk without multiple stops! Murphy (The Grey Lady x Neville 2021) came into my life when I truly needed him most! I was living on my own after college in a new town that I moved to right in the midst of 2020. I had always wanted a puppy, so did tons of research on various breeds and breeders. When a springer spaniel seemed like the right option, I found Jennifer at Spirit Hill. First off, the website really demonstrated that she cared for her dogs, cared about where they ended up, and wanted the new owners to be prepared. I contacted Jennifer, sent in a deposit, and she was so helpful in scheduling my puppy pick out. From the first minute meeting Murphy, I was in love! He had his own spunky energy, super comfortable exploring, and was very cuddly. When he got home, potty training him was a breeze and he picked up on training so quickly. He became my best buddy! He is a beautiful dog, friendly to everyone, the biggest goof, so smart, and is so calm natured when other dogs are not. Jennifer, just wanted to give you an update on Moxie (Eve x Remus 10/2019) and Lizzie (Aurora x Neville 3/2021).  They’re goofy funny smart girls! Moxie is the talker with her eyes and Lizzie talks with her tail. Moxie is the one who tells us its time for dinner with looks, wiggle growls and eventually short woofs while standing by the dog food containers. They know to sit, wait, give paw and then eat once I drop my hands like at a raceway. 🤣 They greet me every morning with kisses (Moxie) and hugs (Lizzie) and they are so overjoyed when my husband comes home, especially since that means they get to run off leash chasing the ball for a half hour at the ballfield around the corner. Lizzie is faster but overshoots sometimes and Moxie gets it first. Lizzie is a ball of happiness except at night around bedtime when she growls if she is bothered. She gets kicked off the bed or couch when she does it but she does it much less often since being spade in the spring after she turned 2. Lizzie follows me around the house like a shadow. Moxie is a bit more independent but will spend a good chunk of time with me though she loves laying under my husband’s legs, like she did the first night we took her home. Moxie hates being brushed and will hide from me if she sees the brush. I have to move their locations because she’ll hide if she sees me open the 2 different drawers they were in. Lizzie loves the brush and is a jealous nelly when I’m brushing Moxie, so much so I have to brush her a couple times on the back to appease her. So funny. Moxie only cares about squirrels/bunnies but Lizzie likes to chase them AND birds! She’s got that bird dog instinct more. Yesterday our adorable, sweet, fun- loving pup Winnie (Winsome Clover) formerly Sable from the “Shades of Black” litter of Kingsley and Bertie Botts 11.9.22 turned 1 year old. I can’t believe it and how fast she is growing up. Winnie is healing my heart after losing our dear Springer, Lily, who was 14.9 years old. I wasn’t sure I was ready to love another but as your mother says “The puppy chooses you” and the moment you put Winnie into my arms it was love from there on. Winnie is winning hearts everywhere we go. She is spunky, outgoing, well-mannered mostly, and so, very gosh darn cute. She is a cuddle bug and keeps our family entertained with her silly antics. Hey Jennifer! I hope you are doing well! About this time last year, Jacob and I sent in our deposit for a sweet springer spaniel pup. Sandy (Secret x Remus 2022) has been such a joy and I wanted to update you on how well she is doing. Everywhere we go, people stop us to talk about how beautiful she is. We adopted our first springer over 12 years ago from a friend who had a litter. What an awesome pet he became and made us fall in love with the breed.  Mulligan (Rolly x Neville 2022) arrived in our hearts in February 2022. Such a tiny, adorable puppy he was. “This year has been a golden year for our Luna the Lunatic (Grey x Remus 2018). She is the sweetest Springer anyone has ever met. She’s also proven to be an excellent competitor. Luna went to the CPE Agility National Championship in June and despite it being her first big competition she earned 5 qualifying scores. She is one weekend away from earning her CATCH-2 title and earned her first CPE Speedway title last week as well. Her real love is obedience, so we’ve started to focus on training there. “I wanted to give an update this time on Chester (Holly x Remus 3/16/20) and Lionel (Pensieve x Remus 8/20/21) They are doing absolutely amazing!! So first off, Chester has officially passed his certification test to become a Bright and Beautiful therapy dog! Everyone in his class absolutely loved him and his instructor kept commenting on how beautiful and smart he is!  As for Lionel, he graduated Puppy kindergarten and passed his AKC STAR puppy test as well! Lionel also started agility classes and has been making amazing progress during it! He can do jumps and the tunnel like a pro at 8 months old and is just starting to learn the weave poles and is getting the hang of it QUICK!  I take them to work with me all the time, they are so loved at my job and they’ve actually inspired me to enter a program to become a certified dog trainer, that I’ll be finishing up early next year. I just wanted to say thank you so, so much for these two boys. You really have an excellent breeding program and I’m so happy that I found Spirt Hill Springers. Chester and Lionel are such great buddies as well, they get along great and are so funny together! “In today’s agility class, Lydia (Grey x Remus 2019) did a sequence that required that she sit and wait for a release, jump through a hoop, clear a standing jump, run through the tunnel, take another jump, leap onto a table, immediately lie down and hold her place until released.  She did it multiple times PERFECTLY.  I am so proud of her! “We have had dogs as family members for 46 years.  Around twenty years ago, we fell in love with springer spaniels and we were hooked!  When Rowdy was over 14 years, we knew what the loss would be like for us and our nine year old springer, Cassie.  That was when we found Spirit Hill Springers and Jennifer Bierhuizen.  The information she shares on her website shows her experience and wisdom when breeding springers, and the pictures tell the story.  We knew we wanted one of these very special farm-raised puppies. “I knew from the minute I drove up to Spirit Hill Springers that I picked the right breeder.  I was greeted by three beautiful English Springers Spaniels that brought me to tears and reminded me of my childhood growing up with springers.  I had been looking for a black and white female for months with no luck.  While visiting Richmond one weekend, I happened to locate Jennifer in Culpeper, VA, so I went to possibly pick out a female from a litter that had just been born.  Upon meeting Jennifer, I knew right away that she was the type of breeder with the environment that I wanted my puppy to come from.  She was knowledgeable and you could tell that she generally cared about every puppy there  Fortunately, there were no black/white females available, so she introduced me to a black/white male that had been born in December (Dorie x Remus 2017) and was still available.  When he came running towards me he stole my heart! I could already tell his personality and his happy disposition!  Jennifer took the time to show me the whole farm and even introduced me to my pup’s mother and father.  When she told me that the father was from Poland, that sealed the deal!  With my own Polish background, I knew it was meant to be. “Atticus (Maggie x Viktor 2017) is an AWESOME puppy! Shortly after bringing him home, we began renovations to our house. He quickly became the greeter of the carpenters, painters, etc. He waited at the door, even on weekends, to greet them with perked ears, ready to play.  He was their shadow, often plopping into their laps for a closer cuddle. He’s brought great joy to our family mix…baiting us with sticks, bones, or balls in his mouth, close enough for us to almost grab and then leading us in games of keep-away or treasure hunts.  He runs at lightning speed even when he’s not chasing a thing.  Always ‘in training’ for adventures in our meadow and woods.
